Your stay at Ditchley: venue, facilities, currency

We are privileged to have Ditchley Park as the home of the Ditchley Foundation and to be able to put this wonderful house to good use, thanks to the generosity of Sir David Wills, who established the Foundation in 1958.

The house sits on 300 acres of beautiful countryside, which guests are free to explore, and you have the option of taking a guided tour of the house during your stay. Oxford is 15 miles away and can be visited during the free time scheduled for the second day of the conference.

Ditchley has 39 guest rooms, situated in different wings and of varying size and decor. Being an 18th-century home, not all rooms have en-suite bathrooms; however, there is a high ratio of bathrooms to bedrooms. Rooms that are not en-suite are equipped with bathrobes.

In order to limit distractions and encourage conversation outside the formal sessions, bedrooms are not equipped with televisions or telephones. A conference office, equipped with a photocopier, a printer and two PCs, is located on the lower ground floor. Wi-fi access is available throughout the ground floor of the house. As our location is rural, mobile telephone signals are not always reliable. A telephone is available for guests to make and receive telephone calls, in case of need.

When making your travel plans, please bear in mind that accommodation at Ditchley is available for the two nights of the conference only. The premises are closed immediately following the end of the conference on Saturday.

Please note that there are no currency exchange or ATM facilities at Ditchley. Conference participants are guests of the Foundation and so should have few expenses during their stay. However, should you incur any charges (for example, for the optional excursion on the Friday afternoon, for which there is a charge of £15, or if you wish to leave a gratuity for the staff), we are not equipped to take credit card payments. You should, therefore, plan to travel with a certain amount of local currency for incidental expenses.

You will not need to pack a hairdryer, as these are provided. Please also bear in mind that UK power sockets take plugs with three rectangular pins. The voltage is 220v. We recommend that you bring a suitable adapter if you plan to charge your electrical devices.
