Lady Valerie Broomfield

Ditchley is deeply saddened to record the death on 11 February 2026 of Lady (Valerie) Broomfield, widow of our former Director, Sir Nigel Broomfield.

Both are remembered with great fondness by those from the Ditchley team who worked with them during their tenure from 1999-2004. They worked together to take the impact of the Foundation forward and to preserve Ditchley Park as a national treasure. They fully embraced life at Ditchley, immersing themselves in all that living on a country estate has to offer. Valerie shared her love of riding with Dr Catherine Wills and kept her horses at Ditchley, encouraging conference participants to ride with her.

Following Sir Nigel’s death in October 2018, Valerie remained very much part of the Ditchley family, flying from Jersey to attend the Annual Lecture each year. Her many friends in the Ditchley community cherished the opportunity to see her.

Valerie which will be much missed, and our thoughts and good wishes are with her family.
