His Majesty The King convenes AI leaders; Ditchley facilitates

DUMFRIES HOUSE, Scotland – His Majesty The King today convened leaders from the artificial intelligence sector, Government, and thought leaders to discuss how AI can be developed and deployed in ways that benefit society. 

Through discussions facilitated by The Ditchley Foundation, participants from Nvidia, Google DeepMind, OpenAI, Anthropic, other industry representatives, the Minister for Artificial Intelligence, The Rt Hon Kanishka Narayan, as well as thought leaders convened by the King's Trust, the King's Foundation and the Sustainable Markets Initiative, explored how the rapidly developing technology of AI can be harnessed in ways that benefit society, strengthen communities and improve lives. 

The discussions considered whether a shared set of principles can be developed to help guide the future application of artificial intelligence, not merely as a driver of capability and efficiency, but as a tool that upholds human dignity and contributes to the flourishing of both people and the planet. 

“It was a great honour to participate in the Dumfries House convening of AI leaders in the presence of His Majesty The King, and we hope that we can build on the really useful exchanges we had today,” said James Arroyo, director of The Ditchley Foundation. 

Thinking on AI is embedded across Ditchley’s convening programme. It has been a sustained area of work for several years, including convening a pre-discussion for the 2023 Bletchley Park AI Safety Summit. Recent discussions have covered both AI itself and the wider strategic questions it is reshaping, and AI features across our work on national security, geopolitics, economic growth, democracy, media, education and technology.
