In Memoriam: Dr David Malone (1954-2025)

It is with much sadness that Ditchley marks the passing of Dr David Malone, former United Nations University Rector, on 24 November 2025 in Victoria, Canada. Dr Malone was a warm supporter of Ditchley and most recently participated in our June conference on Renewing democracy: how to strengthen democratic resilience and outcompete authoritarianism in Europe.

Dr Malone was known as a diplomat, academic and international civil servant, holding prominent posts in New York, Cairo, Delhi, Sudan, Libya and Tokyo. He is remembered as a leading voice on international affairs, as well as a generous mentor who inspired countless young professionals committed to public service and scholarship.
