Closing the Circuit: How can investment deliver a competitive and resilient UK electricity market?

The discussion described a complex set of macroeconomic pressures, regulatory changes, and infrastructure bottlenecks that are acting on the electricity system. Layered on top: a more polarised political landscape, additional geopolitical risks to energy security and unpalatably high consumer prices, which were seen as rapidly eroding the “social licence” for net zero. There was broad recognition that the UK electricity system is now entering a new phase, from experiment to system design and delivery. Clean Power 2030 provides a clear policy objective for this, but the narrative that underpins this next stage of the transition is missing.
